Kathleen Turano has over 30 years experience developing talented business and scientific research teams that use innovative approaches to address real-world problems. She has navigated PSS in its initial years and built value by securing several federal and state grants and private investment funds as well as several licensing agreements with international seed companies. Under her leadership, Plant Sensory Systems’ revenue has doubled annually since the company was founded. Prior to coming to Plant Sensory Systems, Kathleen was a full professor at The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine where she developed and led an internationally recognized research program in human sensory systems.


Frank J. Turano, PhD, Chief Research Officer

Frank Turano has over 30 years experience in plant sciences, with expertise in amino acid metabolism and plant signaling. Frank has experience working at the transition between basic research and the development of commercial products. Under his leadership, Plant Sensory Systems has developed agricultural crops with increased yield and nutritional value. Frank is the inventor on 10 patent/patent applications. Prior to coming to PSS, Dr. Frank Turano spent a decade as a Plant Molecular Biologist and Geneticist at the United States Department of Agriculture and a decade at The George Washington University as an associate professor of Biology and Genetics, co-director of the Metabolic Network Institutes, and a faculty member in the Institute of Genomic Research and Institute for Proteomics Technology and Applications.
